Preparing for Surgery

At Alexander Orthopaedic Associates, we strive to provide our patients with the knowledge and resources they need before surgery. We want our patients to feel confident and prepared as they embark on their journey to recovery, which is why we’ve compiled the information below to help prepare for before and after surgery.

On the Day of Surgery

Patients will need their driver’s license or another form of identification, as well as their insurance and payment information. We recommend patients wear comfortable clothes and have reliable transportation home after the procedure. Patients should plan to be at our state-of-the-art surgery center roughly two hours early to discuss their medical history as well as have them meet with an anesthesiologist. At this time, we will also go over consent forms and the surgical procedure again to make sure the patient is calm and comfortable about their procedure and doesn’t have any questions or concerns.

After Surgery

After surgery, patients will receive detailed recovery notes and recommendations from their doctor. We recommend patients also have a family member or a trusted friend with them for at least twenty-four hours after their surgery. Although patients will feel noticeably better following surgery, it’s important to be mindful that surgery takes a toll on the body and patients should try their best to rest and relax afterwards.
